By way of background, opening thoughts: Here we have a popular, value priced Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma.
Original tasting and review : This is Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, CA, from an undesignated recent vintage (restaurant-served).
In the glass: Deep dark red.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bright, fresh, tangy red fruit elements. From the aroma, seems like this will be purple, bright and somewhat structured.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full of aromatic red and black berries. Lush and quite full on the palate. But sandy perfumed notes keep pulsing to a clean finish that delivers a tiny finishing whisper to your upper cheeks.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a big plus for its depth and aromatics. Awesome value.
