By way of background, opening thoughts: The wine equivalent of comfort food is a red blend from California. Let's try this version with an equally comfort-inducing label showing an old 1947 Massey-Harris red tractor and barn.
Original tasting and review, September, 2011: This is Tudal Family Winery Cerruti Cellars Tractor Shed Red, California, 2009, finished at 14.3% alcohol. It is a blend of French and Italian style varietals of cabernet franc, merlot, sangiovese and zinfandel, all from California vineyards. Review sample provided by Balzac Communications & Marketing.
In the glass: Tractor Shed Red shows as deep burgundy, opaque towards the center.
On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows deep bold fruit, some cedar. From the aroma, seems like this will be full, rich and aromatic.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a rich, deep red/black berry and pepper middle, with deep aromatic edges. Bold alcohol and mild acids bring the sip to a modest and fairly sleek finish.
In summary: Overall, a bold, strong, new world offering rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a big plus for its potent character, becoming a very good value at its modest price point.
Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Soft and round nose, consistent elements. Consistent palate, actually moves more chocolately.

Updated review, exactly a year later, September, 2012: Medium dusty red in the glass. Softer fruit, less cedar in the nose. Nice berry mixture on the palate. Peppery reds and deep blackberries. Some menthol. Just a touch hot on the finish. But touches four stars, becoming a best value. This is fresh and ready to drink at three years from vintage date.
