Original tasting and review : This is Cameron Hughes Lot 254 Meritage Red Wine, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, CA, 2008.
In the glass: Deep magenta with purple cast.
On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, shows soft, bold, fresh plum. From the aroma, seems like this will be cracklingly bright and deep.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact velvet-lined bold purple jet blasts, sleek, full and even fleshy. Finish holds with a mineral tautness, but with fruit and aromatics held in full frame.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for well-suited power on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Best value.
