Check out today's pricing and retail availability for bargain priced California Shiraz.
By way of background, opening thoughts: Charles Shaw is the formal name for the widely recognized "Two Buck Chuck" series of wines from Trader Joe's, named because of their $1.99 a bottle retail price point. Today, we are sampling the Shiraz from that "practically free" line.
Original tasting and review : This is Charles Shaw "Two Buck Chuck" Shiraz, California, 2011, finished at 12.5% alcohol.
In the glass: medium red with distinct purple new wine overtones.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft and slightly meaty fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be solid and lightly layered.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact fresh, fruity with engaging ripe plums and blackberries. The finish is short, veers fruity, but remains clean throughout.
In summary: Overall, I find I would come back for another glass, so that rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, and makes Two Buck Chuck Shiraz a best value at its practically free price!
