By way of background, opening thoughts: Retailer Trader Joe's manages to find some interesting wines ( in the states where it is allowed to retail wines). Today' "Nosedive" label is one of those, offered at a bargain price. I cannot post a photo, but I encourage you to take a look at the label, which displays a prominent nose with wings, about to freestyle dive into a chalice. Not the most appetizing label I've seen, but I have higher hopes for the wines.
Original tasting and review : This is Nosedive Red Blend, Mendocino, California, 2010, finished at 13.7% alcohol.
In the glass: Nosedive is deep magenta, with purple at the edges.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows fruity plums and just a hint of depth. From the aroma, seems like this will be fresh and young, perhaps simpe.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact fairly lush as a mid red fruit-driven wine, with definite ripe plums making their way through just-apparent tannins. Sings as it moves to a slightly sandy, then bright fruity finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making it a best value at its bargain price point.
