By way of background, opening thoughts: A value-priced cabernet sauvignon from South Eastern Australia is always an interesting proposition.
Original tasting and review, September, 2011: This is Madison Ridge Lot 1232 Cabernet Sauvignon, South Eastern Australia, 2009, finished at 13.9% alcohol.
In the glass: Madison Ridge shows deep, almost black burgundy, opaque just a quarter inch from the dge of the glass.
On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft, deep eucalyptus black berries. From the aroma, seems like this will be soft ripe blackberry and aromatic.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact fresh, very ripe blackberries, with solid, full acids supporting the voluminous new world fruit and deep oak. Bright enough to connect with food, tasty enough on its own.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its bounding power. Good value.
Following long decant, more than a full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: More red berries than black berries come through on the palate now. Still deep and lightly eucalyptus-tinged. The palate brings forth a full-frontal, jammy mix of sweet red and black fruit, laced with sufficient acids and tannins to bring lift and length. Finishes remarkably long and clean for such power. Touches four stars and becomes a best value. Recommend a long decant while this Australian cab is so young.

Updated review, over a year later, late September, 2012: Deep rustic burgundy, still opaque in the center. Soft, fleshy blackberry now, no eucalyptus. Aromatic and brightly acid on the palate, but not giving up on depth or weight on the palate. Tangy, tight, fruity and almost hot on the finish. But, dang, this is potent.
