By way of background, opening thoughts: "Grower's Reserve" is the wine series just above the level "Charles Shaw", aka "Two Buck Chuck", in Trader Joe's retailer-labeled wines.

Original tasting and review : This is Trader Joe's Grower's Reserve Merlot, California, 2011, finished at 13.% alcohol and made of organically grown grapes, produced by ASV Wnes of SanMartin, California.

In the glass: Deep magenta with purple overtones.

On the nose: Poured and swirled vigorously, shows soft, deep plum and spices.  From the aroma, seems like this will be soft, friendly and lush.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact deep with layered and balanced plums, clean black pepper tones.  Brings violet hued robes forward as the sip subsides.  Fragrant and elegant on the finish.

In summary:  Rates three stars with a plus for layered complexity on the Spirit of Wine scale, making this an easy best value at its bargain price.
