By way of background, opening thoughts: Barossa is the most well-known Australian region for big, brassy shiraz.  Today we have one appropriately named after the Jack Russell terriers that chase snakes on this vineyard.

Original tasting and review : This is Barossa Jack Shiraz, Barossa Valley, South Australia, 2008, finished at 14.9% alcohol.

In the glass: Appropriately deep purple and black magenta.  Opaque from a half inch in.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, sweet, soft oaked black fruit.   From the aroma, seems like this will be thick, sweet with rich blackberry and layered.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact creamy, full rich blackberry, bold, layered, yet still young with tannins and flushing clean acids.  Red fruit robes crawl slowly up your cheeks, unfurling with deeper blackberry and slowly, slowly fading, leaving hints of milk chocolate and black pepper.  Remarkable balance for such potency.

In summary: Overall, rates a very rare five stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, showing the impact of its combined potency and balance.  A great value that defines awesomeness.
