By way of background, opening thoughts:  Petit verdot is not a grape one commonly finds as the primary component of a red wine - especially from Australia.  So this one, blended with 30% cabernet sauvignon and 15% merlot, was of interest to me.

Original tasting and review : This is Red Heads Studio "Yard Dog" Petit Verdot Blend, South Eastern Australia, 2006, finished at 14.% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep grainy mahogany, opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, fragrant, well-knit mixed black fruits.  From the aroma, seems like this will be layered, with serious structure.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full, deep, bold yet compact on the palate, bringing taut ripe blackberry as the focal point.  Clean, almost mineral, streams build from the center, bringing the same taut fruit to the edges of your cheeks in a moderate, fragrant finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  That is a best value at the bargain price for which "Yard Dog" was procured.
