By way of background, opening thoughts: The Vitiano 2007 scored a "best value" designation from Spirit of Wine, including in an updated tasting just earlier this week.  Today we will be sampling the 2009 vintage.

Original tasting and review :  This is Vitiano Cabernet Sauvignon - Sangiovese - Merlot, Umbria, Italy, 2009, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep ruby.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows lighly funky, pulpy, chunky purple fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be bright and tangy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact light, sweet, and fresh red fruit in the middle, with a light rush of acids and tannins, more along your tongue than in your cheeks.  Fresh finish, though quick.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars with a plus for bright balance on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Good quality for the price, but 2009 was not to the "best value" level of the 2007 vintage.

Following long decant, full day under vacuum in partially filled bottle:  Shy purple on the nose.  A touch of old world wood comes in on the mid palate along with the dry red fruit.  Improving...
