By way of background, opening thoughts: Here we're doing a comparison Bourbon tasting, first a new offering from Trader Joe's and then a classic, Bulleit Bourbon

Original tasting and review : This is Trader Joe's Kentucky Bourbon Straight Whiskey, finished at 45.% alcohol and distilled by Bourbon Square Distilling Company, Louisville, Kentucky.

In the glass: Medium light caramel, just a hint darker than Bulleit.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows sweet, bright corn, a bit harsh, definite oak.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bright, caramel heat, sweet creamed corn, bright alcohol tang.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars with a plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.

Original tasting and review : This is Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey, Kentucky, finished at 45.% alcohol.

In the glass: Light caramel, just a hint lighter than Trader Joe's.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows sweet and aromatic tones, some mineral oil, layers of very light caramel, intriguing.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sweet, layered, lightly oily and aromatic, almost creamy in its fading finish

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.

So, while the Trader Joe's Kentucky Bourbon is a worthy contender, it doesn't hold up to comparisons with Bulleit.
