By way of background, opening thoughts: Mendoza, Argentina is THE place for Malbec, of course. We're trying one from a moderate price point today.
Original tasting and review : This is Bodega Nieto Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina, 2010.
In the glass: medium deep burgundy, opaque in the very center.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows a deep bold cloak of purple fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be full, fragrant and boldly soft.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact soft, structured and brilliantly fragrant, showing hints of ripe blackberry, ripe blueberry, pear and slippery cedar glycerine in a mouth-filling basket. Fades gently and slowly in a lingering, yet exquisitely clean finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for potent friendliness. Good value.
