Original tasting and review : This is BearBoat Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California, 2009, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium to light red with some brick.

On the nose: Poured with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft fruit overlaid with some classic pinot tanginess.  From the aroma, seems like this will be new world in fruit, but with layers to contemplate.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sweet strawberries and ripe blackberries, with light, sweet pepper overtones.  Clean finish that lingers for a surprisingly long period, with some residual cinnamon spice.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for balanced layers.  Good value on the Spirit of Wine basis, which makes it an exceptional value among pinot noirs.
