By way of background, opening thoughts: I've been enjoying some of the Monterey County red wines of late. Today we'll try a bargain pinot noir from the region.
Original tasting and review : This is Bridlewood Pinot Noir, Monterey County, Central Coast, California, 2009, finished at 13.6% alcohol.
In the glass: Medium burgundy and cherry red.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, aromatic and peppery fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be layered, peppery and gentle.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated. Soft black peppery merges with a gentle spicy fruit. The finish picks up the light mild spices and eases into the layered finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Not quite a best value, but a really good buy for a pinot noir.
