By way of background, opening thoughts: N.V. on a wine means "Non-Vintage", or an indication that the year in which the grapes were grown is not being designated for some reason. Sometimes that is because it may contain a blend of years. Typically, it is associated with less expensive, less complex wines. Here it is associated with a higher alcohol, mid-priced wine from the well-known and reasonably well-respected North Coast, California, region.
Original tasting and review : This is Cellmate Red Wine, North Coast, California, NV, finished at 14.8% alcohol, produced and bottled by Sundowner Wines of Healdsburg, California. Because it is "N.V.", I have no idea of how many months or years the wine has been in bottle.
In the glass: Medium deep red, no real opacity in the center.
On the nose: Poured with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft, languid, high-alcohol black cherry and blackberry fruit, with light tones of lavender. From the aroma, seems like this will be friendly and showing some age.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact soft deep plums with a light oak overlay. This one is peaking, perhaps having a few years in bottle already. No oxidation, but the soft touch is almost turning generic.
In summary: Overall, rates a solid three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Best value when acquired at a bargain price.
