By way of background, opening thoughts: This is a Cameron Hughes negociant syrah wine from Santa Ynez Valley.  Some of the past Cameron Hughes wines I have reviewed have been great value for the price.

Original tasting and review : This is Cameron Hughes Syrah, Lot 292, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California, 2010, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: deep dark ruby, opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows blossomy licorice and ripe plums, with subtle hints of cedar.  From the aroma, seems like this will be big, bold and dark fruity.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bright red fruits surrounding ripe blackberries and almost-black plums. The finish yield tangy black fruits, mostly blackberry.

In summary: Overall, rates a solid three  stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
