By way of background, opening thoughts:
Original tasting and review : This is Twelve Staves Shiraz Grenache, McLaren Vale, Australia, 2004, finished at 15% alcohol.
In the glass: deep burgundy, opaque in the center.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bright, msweet, bold fruit and a hint of underlying oak. From the aroma, seems like this will be bold and fresh, despite the eight years from vintage date.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact smoky, soft, lush and elegant fruit. Showing the deepest of blackberries plus super sweet pomegranate. All in a deep, lush frame, still supported by underlying tannins and gentle, mouth-watering acidity. Finish pulses in your cheeks for a full minute. The alcohol, while big, is not overbearing.
In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value when you can find it.
