Original tasting and review : This is Journeys End Beginning Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia, 2004, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep ruby-highlighted burgundy.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bright and bold tobacco fruit, almost port-like.  From the aroma, seems like this will be aromatic, distinctive and deep.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sleek, mineral, black cherry with a soft, languid, aromatic core.  Few tannins left, but you can tell they have done their work in creating the deep, mineral backbone.  The finish is sweet feeling, but clean.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for distinctiveness.  Good value.
